Next Generation Honoree: S2 Founder Scott Everett Takes Rags to Riches Pathway

In the annals of pulling yourself up by your own bootstraps, Scott Everett’s story offers a particularly inspiring example. Less than a decade ago, Everett was a teenage father and community college dropout, waiting tables and relying on government assistance. Since then, he has taught himself the real estate business—reading books at the local Barnes & Noble when he couldn’t afford to buy them—weathered a recession-battered housing market, and launched S2 Capital to acquire and redevelop multifamily properties.

Those are just some of the reasons we chose Everett to be one of the Texas 2018 Next Generation Award winners. Connect Media’s second annual Next Generation Awards recognize young leaders in the commercial real estate industry who are likely to be influential for years to come.

As managing partner of S2 Capital, Everett has built a 250-employee investment company that has acquired over $1.7 billion of multifamily assets and three operating companies that generate annual revenues in excess of $160 million. Connect Media’s recognition of Everett is in line with S2’s position atop the Inc. 5000 list of fastest-growing CRE companies in 2017.

Everett is an active investor and board member for multiple early-stage companies. He also serves on the board and contributes significant time and resources to Jonathan’s Place Charity, a Dallas-area emergency shelter for at-risk children.
