Next Generation Honoree: Michael Rudin, a Mover and Shaker at the Intersection of CRE and Tech

“The relation of real estate and technology is at an incredible intersection right now,” Michael Rudin told Leaders magazine in 2016. The fourth generation of New York’s Rudin dynasty is among the movers and shakers at that intersection of CRE and tech. A member of the WiredScore advisory board, he has been instrumental in bringing proptech platforms into general use across the Rudin Management platform. He also helps lead the family’s real estate venture capital business, Rudin Ventures, which earlier this year was among the investors providing $4.3 million in seed money to Enertiv, a tech firm that makes product to track the energy usage in buildings.

Those are just some of the reasons we chose Rudin to be one of the New York 2018 Next Generation Award winners. Connect Media’s second annual Next Generation Awards recognize young leaders in the commercial real estate industry who are likely to be influential for years to come.

Rudin also spearheaded the creation of the Rudin organization’s own proptech firm. Known as Prescriptive Data, it developed Nantum, a building management platform that uses machine learning to positively influence, predict and prescribe the property’s performance, e.g., when to adjust a building’s temperature. It’s being integrated into properties across the Rudin portfolio, including Dock 72, the mixed-use project Rudin Management is developing with Boston Properties at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
