Next Generation Honoree: Gabe Marans Links Tech to Deals to People

Gabe Marans immediately started making a difference when he joined Savills Studley as an intern. That was in 2009, in the depths of the Financial Crisis. Marans built a customized database of the entire New York City office market. It’s become a tool the whole Savills Studley team uses and adds to.

That’s just one of the reasons we chose Marans to be one of the five 2017 Next Generation Award winners for New York. Connect Media’s Next Generation Awards recognize young leaders in the commercial real estate industry who are likely to be influential for years to come.

As a corporate managing director for Savills Studley, Marans has negotiated in excess of 1.6 million square feet in lease transactions for tenants like Ralph Lauren, J.Crew and Knotel. The Real Estate Board of New York named him the “Most Promising Commercial Real Estate Salesperson” in 2014.

His interest in technology didn’t stop with his database. He’s been an angel investor in several tech start-ups. He also publishes his own articles on commercial real estate on LinkedIn, with a current average of 600 readers who click-through to read each article.

He also connects with his colleagues in person — creating a cross-national business development group for mid-level brokers, that meets once a year at a three-day retreat, and holds monthly calls to share ideas, best practices and opportunities to collaborate.
