Next Generation Honoree: Cushman & Wakefield’s Muss Knows Where to Strike a Deal

A senior associate in Cushman & Wakefield’s New York office, where she began her CRE career in 2014, Hillary Muss is an integral part of the retail brokerage team led by Jim Downey and Eric Le Goff. Muss has completed national retail transactions totaling 150,000 square feet and $185 million in aggregate rental value. She has secured New York City flagships for some of the retail world’s leading brands.

Those are just some of the reasons we chose Muss to be one of the New York 2018 Next Generation Award winners. Connect Media’s second annual Next Generation Awards recognize young leaders in the commercial real estate industry who are likely to be influential for years to come.

A quality that is especially valuable to Muss’ team and clients is her all-encompassing understanding of a “sense” of where a deal can be struck. Her comprehensive understanding of the client’s objectives, knowledge of various local markets and willingness to master relevant municipal practices attest to her skill, tenacity, creativity and determination.

For example, Muss and her team were tasked with sourcing a major footwear brand’s first corporate-owned New York store. Securing a two-story location at a site that previously held a one-story operation meant getting the tenant, landlord and New York City Department of Buildings all on the same page. Today, the store is one of the chain’s standouts.
