Next Generation Honoree: Truss’ Vanessa Anderson Spearheads a Platform
As VP of operations, Vanessa Anderson oversees inventory management and customer support at Truss, an online marketplace for commercial real estate leasing. Since joining the Chicago-based company in 2017, she has spearheaded the creation of a modernized, automated, and comprehensive commercial real estate listing database in 10 major U.S. markets. She used innovative techniques and cutting-edge technology to gather and maintain the data in an otherwise data-siloed industry.
Those are just a few of the reasons we chose Anderson to be one of the National 2019 Next Generation Award winners. Connect Media’s third annual Next Generation Awards recognize young leaders in the commercial real estate industry who are likely to be influential for years to come.
When Anderson heard about Truss, she researched the startup company’s business model and approached the founders with an unsolicited offer: she created a plan for how to increase inventory and scale the business.
Anderson has delivered on that plan. Under her leadership, the Truss database has expanded from 12,895 listings to 43,706, from 88.5 million square feet to 332.6 million, from one asset class to three, and from three cities to 10.
She has also surprised her coworkers with her moxie and can-do spirit. When Truss was preparing to launch in Boston, management realized the database was deficient for the market. Anderson flew her team to Boston and they canvassed for available spaces in Cambridge, the Financial District and the Seaport.
