Next Generation Honoree: Trammell Crow’s John Carlson Builds on His Experiences
A principal of Trammell Crow Company’s Midwest business unit, John Carlson is responsible for development and acquisition activities in Chicago, the Twin Cities and the Upper Midwest. He has been a part of over $750 million in development activities in the Midwest across multifamily, office, and residential projects, including three NAIOP award-winning developments over the past seven years.
Colleagues say Carlson has demonstrated his great instincts and intuition at a young age for this industry, and that he possesses the ability to develop strong relationships with all members of a project or transaction.
These are just a few of the reasons we chose Carlson to be one of the Chicago 2019 Next Generation Award winners. Connect Media’s third annual Next Generation Awards recognize young leaders in the commercial real estate industry who are likely to be influential for years to come.
Carlson has found a way to strengthen his experience from every deal he is a part of, and apply those lessons learned to new opportunities. As an example, he was instrumental in the assemblage of three separately-owned parcels in Downers Grove, IL, that served as the basis for Maple & Main, a recently- completed project containing 115 units of luxury market-rate apartments and 4,200 square feet of street-level retail space. The apartments are 85% leased and enjoying the highest rents in suburban Chicago, while the retail space has been leased to two local restaurant operators.
