NexPoint Hoping to Repurpose Plano’s Old EDS Campus
At one time, EDS was a high-powered Plano-based tech firm led by Ross Perot. Now long gone, developers are trying to figure out the highest and best use for the former campus. The new owner of the property, Dallas-based NexPoint Development, is in early talks with the city of Plano to transform the 1.6 million-square-foot campus and adjacent land into a life sciences hub. Early plans call for NexPoint to spend over $3 billion on the redevelopment project.
NexPoint is calling it Technology x Science, or the TxS District for short. They want to partner with the city of Plano through its economic development incentive programs, which would allow for significant tax abatements and grants.
The developers and city leaders say the project would allow them to compete with New England and Southern California for industry-leading tech jobs and programs.
