  • Pretium, a specialized investment firm with more than $55 billion in assets under management, appointed Stephen M. Scherr as co-president, effective immediately. In this role, Scherr will work in partnership with co-president Jonathan Pruzan in overseeing Pretium’s strategic and operational initiatives. Scherr is also joining the firm’s executive committee and board of directors. He brings more than 30 years of experience leading high-performing teams, including nearly three decades at Goldman Sachs, where he served as CFO from 2018 through 2021.  
  • Marc Belsky Ltd, a leading intermediary firm specializing in raising joint venture and preferred equity for middle market real estate transactions nationwide, appointed Ilya Gamer as managing director. Gamer will play a pivotal role in expanding the firm’s client base across multifamily and other asset classes nationwide. He brings extensive experience in real estate investment banking and private equity, having originated and closed $550 million-plus in equity for more than $6 billion in real estate transactions during his tenure as managing director and the top producer at CrowdStreet. 
  • Compass, reportedly the largest residential real estate brokerage in the U.S., appointed Soham Bhonsle as the new head of investor relations. Bhonsle brings over a decade of experience covering the housing sector on the sell-side. He joins Compass from BTIG, where he covered companies in the Housing Services sector as a senior analyst and VP, following roles at Morgan Stanley and Susquehanna International Group.  
  • BHDM Design, an award-winning, bicoastal interior design firm, promoted Stephanie Metzger, Sheila Cahill and John Doyle to new directorial positions. Metzger has been appointed as senior director of concept and experience, Cahill will hold the role of senior director of design and development and Doyle will serve as director of design and development.  
  • Partnership with Children, a 116-year-old nonprofit supporting the mental health and wellness of schoolchildren across New York, has named Helena Willner board president. An attorney and philanthropist, Willner has served on the board for eight years, including as secretary and treasurer. She is a partner at Holliswood Development LLC, a woman-owned real estate development and investment company in New York.  
  • The CoreNet Global New York City Chapter announced the winners of the Annual 2024 Corporate Real Estate Awards for Excellence. These individuals and projects were celebrated at the second annual REmmys Gala event, held on Sept. 26 at Casa Cipriani. The winners were as follows: Corporate Real Estate Executive of the Year: Jamie Fuertas, managing director and head of corporate services, Apollo Global Management. Service Provider of the Year: Debra Cole, principal, global client relations director, HLW. Young Leader of the Year: Jack Macejka, VP of national accounts, The Advance Group. Deal of the Year: Avison Young, for its sale of 43-49 Bleecker Street, led by James Nelson and Brandon Polakoff, which had a notable impact on the real estate industry and the community. By navigating SoHo-NoHo’s new rezoning laws, they secured a $35-million sale. Project of the Year – Under 25,000 Square Feet: Well&, Durst. Project of the Year – 25,000 – 45,000 Square Feet: Chinese-American Planning Council. Project of the Year – 100,000 – 299,000 Square Feet: HSBC. Project of the Year – Over 300,000 Square Feet: Google at St. John’s Terminal. 
  • The Garden State’s commercial real estate community came together for a day of friendly competition and community action as NAIOP New Jersey hosted its 2024 Golf Classic and Pickleball Tournament in September. Funds raised at the sold-out event, which was held at Canoe Brook Country Club in Summit, will provide 15,000 meals for the Community FoodBank of New Jersey. 
  • 3V Infrastructure, a New York City-based electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure investor, owner and operator, backed by an affiliate of Greenbacker Capital Management, announced a relationship with Camden Property Trust, one of the nation’s leading multifamily residential operators. The companies will deploy EV charging stations across portions of Camden’s property portfolio, expanding access to reliable, at-home charging for thousands of U.S. residents.
  • Innovative engineering that enabled the new Olympia DUMBO residential tower in Brooklyn to billow towards the sky with a sail-shaped silhouette has earned DeSimone Consulting Engineering official recognition. The Concrete Industry Board of New York will recognize the project with the 2024 Roger H. Corbetta Mid-Rise Award of Merit with Special Recognition in November, and the UK’s Society of Façade Engineering has shortlisted DeSimone for its 2024 New Build International award.

Since 1999, Paul has volunteered as the newsletter editor of passenger rail advocacy groups (one national, one local).
