New Statue of Liberty Museum Tops Out
Roughly a year after construction started, workers lifted the final structural beam into place at a ceremony at the new Statue of Liberty Museum on Liberty Island. The museum is slated to open in 2019.
“The development will serve as an extension for one of New York City’s most historically significant structures, with a focus on sustainability, public engagement, and modern design,” said Stephen DeSimone of DeSimone Consulting Engineers, which designed the museum with FXFOWLE and ESI Design.
In addition to an indoor museum, Lady Liberty’s new 26,000-square-foot center will include a sprawling outdoor plaza and a rooftop terrace with scenic views of the Manhattan skyline.
