Solar Panels installed by Sunrun on the Don de Dios Apts in San Jose

New Solar Project Benefits San Jose Low-Income Renters

National solar provider Sunrun celebrated the completion of a solar installation serving the Don de Dios Apartments in San Jose, CA, a community of 70 affordable rental homes. The project will save residents an estimated $45 per month on their electricity bills, or more than $900,000 in total savings over the next 20 years.

The project is part of California’s Solar on Multifamily Affordable Housing program in which Sunrun has committed to develop 100 megawatts by 2030. The company has also pledged to bring at least 500 megawatts of low-income solar to people across the country.

“We’re dedicated to democratizing energy and increasing access to affordable, reliable, clean power for everyone, whether your rent or own your home,” said Mary Powell, Sunrun’s CEO in a news release. “Our efforts are supporting over 500 solar projects on affordable housing units, which we anticipate will deliver $13.5 million in annual savings directly to tenants.”
