New Seniors Program Builds in Clarkstown

A plan to build two small apartment buildings for seniors in the town of Clarkstown in Rockland County, NY, just won the first awards from New York States’s new Small Project Affordable Rental Construction program. The $30-million program aims to build resilient, affordable apartments in communities hurt by Superstorm Sandy, Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee.

More than half of the apartments in Clarkstown Seniors Phases I & II will be reserved for households earning up to 80% of the area median income.

“The SPARC program will play a critical role in replacing what was damaged,” says Rafael E. Cestero, president & CEO of the Community Preservation Corporation, which helps administer the program.
