New MXU Slated for Cabrini Green

A 10-acre parcel of the former Cabrini Green public housing complex could re-emerge as a residential tower surrounded by mid-rise structures and townhomes, according to renderings from Gensler Chicago.

Hunt Development Group could break ground this year on the mixed-use project at the intersection of Clybourn Avenue and Larrabee Street, in partnership with Imagine Group and Chicago Neighborhood Initiatives. The land formerly housed the Near North Career Metropolitan High School.

A 21-story residential building will highlight the project. Combined with mid-rise structures and townhomes, the complex will comprise 217 market-rate apartments, 183 units earmarked for Chicago Housing Authority tenants, and 82 affordable units.

Plans also call for 36,000 square feet of retail space in the Cabrini Green area.
