New Land for Development on NYCHA Sites
April 26, 2017
New York City continues to create new places to build housing. For example, two development teams won the contest to develop hundreds of new apartments in the Mott Haven neighborhood of the Bronx, and underused land owned by the New York City Housing Authority.
“I’m so pleased HPD can continue to partner with NYCHA to make use of scarce city land,” said Maria Torres-Springer, commissioner of the City’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development.
Breaking Ground, the supportive housing leader formerly known as Common Ground, will develop 149 apartments for seniors with services at the Betances V site at East 142nd St. and Willis Ave. A joint venture between Lemle & Wolff Development Co., Alembic Community Development and The Bridge will develop another 101 apartments for families at the Betances VI site at East 146th St. and Willis Ave.
