New $400M Lake Forest Hospital Opening
The $400 million replacement for aging Lake Forest Hospital will open March 3 as a private-room-only facility.
The new 500,000-square-foot hospital, operated by Northwestern Medical, features 114 private inpatient rooms, 72 outpatient spaces and 106 examination rooms. Eight operating rooms come with cameras and computer screens, so doctors and nurses can receive the most-up-to-date information. Each patient room will have an information terminal that will collect patient data, and many staff members will receive iPhones on which that data will be available.
“We will be able to spend a lot more time at the bedside, which is the key to healthcare, being able to spend more time with the patient,” nurse clinician David Chilicki told the Chicago Tribune. “That is probably the best part of this hospital.”
Parts of the old hospital may be repurposed, while others will be razed.
