New Entrepreneurial Center Heading to Brownsville

The Brownsville Community Improvement Corp. (BCIC) is spearheading a project to develop an entrepreneurial center in the city of Brownsville. The center will consist of 36,000 square feet at 1304 E. Adams St., which is owned by the city, and an additional 24,000 square feet on the same block. The project is tentatively named the Center for Business and Commercialization (eBridge), and will be geared toward creating and helping local businesses.

According to BCIC Interim Executive Director Josh Mejia, the center will house business incubators, small business boot camps, business planning and development workshops, market research, a mentoring network and Small Business Administration services. The project is being designed by organizations including the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley, Brownsville Chamber of Commerce and the Women’s Business Center of the Rio Grande Valley, as well as the city.

The BCIC is moving forward on requests for proposals for engineers and architects. A groundbreaking ceremony could take place by mid-summer.
