New Emerald Queen Entertainment District Planned in Tacoma

New Emerald Queen Entertainment District Planned in Tacoma

The Puyallup Tribe of Indians is planning to expand its Emerald Queen Casino development in Tacoma, as the Puget Sound Business Journal reports the Tribe has filed documents to redevelop the site of the former casino building at 2024 East 29th Street. The plans indicate the retail and entertainment district will also include a museum, multiuse field, administrative offices and a parking structure.

The former casino was shuttered in 2020 when the new Emerald Queen Casino opened, but the tribe has kept the nearby property somewhat active by utilizing the massive space as an employee parking lot.

The new proposal certainly fits in with the Puyallup Tribe of Indians intention to create more entertainment options in Tacoma, including a planned Northwest Indigenous cuisine restaurant on Ruston Way that will be accessible by Kenmore seaplane service. The tribe is partnering with celebrity chef Roy Yamaguchi in the eatery, called Woven, located at the former C.I. Shenanigans overlooking Commencement Bay.
