New Education Health Building Opens in Spokane
The University of Washington School of Medicine-Gonzaga University Health Partnership is anchoring a new 90,000-square-foot building in the Spokane, WA University District. The facility is the brand new home of the UW School of Medicine Spokane, Gonzaga’s Department of Human Physiology, plus faculty and staff.
“Built upon our deep roots in the Spokane region, this new facility represents one fulfillment of our shared promise to work together to attract, grow and keep the next generations of healthcare professionals,” said Gonzaga University President Thayne M. McCulloh.
The building, developed by McKinstry and the Emerald Initiative team, features modern classrooms, a state-of-the-art anatomy suite, high-tech research labs, an outdoor rooftop deck and small quiet places for collaboration or independent study. The ultra-efficient building utilizes an open-loop ground source heat pump system that extracts water from the Spokane aquifer to provide a constant water temperature that the building’s mechanical systems use to heat and cool the facility.
