New Braunfels’ Wurstfest Canceled for First Time in 60 Years

The popular Wurstfest in New Braunfels is being canceled for the first time in the event’s 60-year history. Organizers determined that given the COVID-19 situation, it wouldn’t be feasible to go ahead with this year’s edition, scheduled for Nov. 6-15.

“We have had our challenges in the past, including flood events and most recently a fire that destroyed the Marktplatz building,” said Randy Rust, 2020 Wurstfest president. “We have always overcome our challenges while making the festival better each year.”

The Wurstfest Association of New Braunfels has scheduled the next edition of the annual festival celebrating German culture with food, music and drinks. It’s slated for Nov. 5-14, 2021, and will include a rebuilt Marktplatz.

In the interim, there’s the question of accommodating community nonprofits that make their fundraising goals for the year during Wurstfest. Plans to support these groups will be announced in the coming weeks.
