Nauset Breaks Ground on New England’s First Senior Cohousing Development
Nauset Construction has broken ground on Hager Homestead, a five-building, 24-unit, 55+ cohousing development in the Boston suburb of Littleton, MA. Cohousing consists of privately-owned homes clustered around shared open space and a common house with shared amenities.
According to Nauset, Hager Homestead will be the first cohousing development for seniors in New England.
“Many seniors are looking for a downsized, community-oriented, environmentally friendly lifestyle, and that’s what Hager Homestead will provide,” said Matthew Blackham of Massachusetts Cohousing, LLC, the project’s developer. “We’re offering a purposefully designed community where everyone has a say, and where residents can connect with one another to create a real community.”
The 15-acre project on King Street centers around a 1795, 2,500-square-foot farmhouse being re-imagined as the Hager Homestead’s Common House. The new community is a short walk from Littleton Center, the Town Hall and public library, and a five-minute drive to the commuter rail station.
