NASA Provides Land for Space Systems Campus
NASA Johnson Space Center will lease underutilized land in Exploration Park, a 240-acre development in Houston, to the American Center for Manufacturing & Innovation for a new development in the space industry. ACMI estimates that over 1,000 jobs would be created at the campus when it is fully operational. The lease term is for 20 years.
Calling it the Space Systems Campus, ACMI plans to incorporate an applied research facility partnered with multiple stakeholders across academia, state and local government, the Department of Defense and regional economic development organizations.
ACMI’s John Burer adds, “ACMI will develop this campus to serve the needs of a variety of stakeholders, with an emphasis on scaling emerging technologies and space systems manufacturing. We will be working closely with tenants and stakeholders to develop specialist capabilities that pair with NASA Johnson capabilities and advance the commercialization of robotics, autonomous systems and materials science as they apply to space systems.”
