Naperville Will See First Amazon Fresh Outside Calif.

A former Dominick’s on Route 59 in Naperville will become Amazon’s second Amazon Fresh grocery store, the Chicago Tribune reported. The new format made its debut last month in Woodland Hills, CA, near Los Angeles.

No opening date has been announced, the Tribune reported. The Naperville store will have 10 parking spaces set aside for curbside pickup.

Although an Amazon spokesperson declined to offer many details, the Tribune reported that the shopping experience will be similar to the one in Woodland Hills.

Among other features, that entails the use of Dash Carts, which allow customers to electronically keep track of their purchases and skip the checkout line.

Smartphones allow shoppers to open their Amazon account and scan a QR code before shopping begins. The carts have sensors, a built-in scale and a smart display that automatically keeps track of the items selected along with those that are removed.
