NAIOP SoCal Sets Stage for 2017
By Dennis Kaiser
NAIOP SoCal recently welcomed its 2017 Executive Committee and Board of Directors, and it encompasses a diverse collection of commercial real estate leadership across the region.
The 2017 NAIOP SoCal Executive Committee is led by President Lance Ryan, Watson Land Company; President-elect and Sponsorship Chair James V. Camp, Rockefeller Group; Vice President and Sponsorship Vice Chair Jeff Moore, CBRE; Treasurer and Real Estate Challenge Advisor Pamela L. Westhoff, Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton; Secretary and I.Con Chair Rob Antrobius, Prologis; Programs and Education Liaison Alison Vukovich, LBA Realty; and Past President Kevin Jennings, Bank of America Merrill Lynch.
Connect Media asked Ryan to share what is on the horizon for NAIOP SoCal, some of the key issues it is tracking this year, as well as ways to get involved in the CRE industry organization.
Q: How is the local chapter focused on advancing the CRE industry?
A: We aim to advance the CRE industry through the three core pillars of NAIOP, which include education, legislative advocacy and networking. There is no other organization that supports the commercial real estate industry in these three areas as well as NAIOP.
Q: Are there any key regulatory issues to watch in 2017?
A: Yes, both at the state and federal level. In addition to monitoring hundreds of pieces of proposed legislation, our Legislative Committee has identified several areas of focus in 2017 which include CEQA reform, ballot box initiatives effecting land uses, and environmental legislation.
NAIOP remains the single unified voice of the commercial real estate industry in advocating for reasonable legislation that strikes the proper balance between funding government, protecting the environment and protecting the livelihood and well-being of Californians through new job creation. We continue to evaluate legislation impacting our industry from the perspective that quality of life begins with a job.
Q: How do you best recommend professionals get plugged into NAIOP this year?
A: Just show up! NAIOP SoCal is hosting informative educational events, forums, and panels almost every week. These are the best opportunities to learn something new that you can put into practice the same day. These events are also where the leaders in our industry gather, and as a result, the networking and discussion of emerging trends and new ideas is unparalleled.
