MXU Planned on 35-Acre Historic Mill Site

The former Mission Valley Cotton Mills, on the banks of the Guadalupe River in New Braunfels, TX, is moving forward on a new use — that of a mixed-use development. Local developer Don Thomas of Reata Real Estate Services (now part of CBRE) told Community Impact he plans to break ground on the Porter Street site in late 2020. He indicated he would like to incorporate residential and retail space, as well as a boutique hotel, into the 35-acre project.

The mill opened in 1921, and includes several buildings, a dam, a hydraulic pump house and 1,200 feet of river frontage. In addition to Mission Valley Cotton Mills, other owners included Planters & Merchants and Plains Cotton Cooperative Association. The mill closed in 2005, and Thomas acquired it in August 2017.
