Greenport Airport and Emerald City may rise in Bastrop County

Musk Projects Spark Bastrop County Airport/Mega-Development

If Elon Musk decides to build a project near your town, it’s safe to say it will attract attention. Now if Musk builds three mammoth projects in the area, the sky is the limit. The Austin Business Journal reports Stephen Carpenter has a dream, to build what he’s calling Greenport Airport and Emerald City in Bastrop County, not far from Musk’s Tesla Inc., The Boring Co. and Space Exploration Technologies Corp. campuses.

The 5,426-acre Greenport campus could become a $10 billion mixed-use aviation and technology park for private flights, high-tech research, energy storage and data centers. The $8.7 billion resort “mini-city” called Emerald Island, pegged for roughly 1,000 acres, could include resort casinos, hotels, entertainment hubs, retailers and restaurants.

Although many believe it’s a pie-in-the-sky dalliance, Greenport’s first buildings have risen north of FM 969 and are occupied by bitcoin miners and data centers. Carpenter said they are seeking $2 billion from investors for each project, and construction is expected to come together afterward.
