“Murder Kroger” to Close, Make Way for $190M 725 Ponce
A Kroger store known as “Murder Kroger” on 725 Ponce De Leon NE in Atlanta will shut down in a couple of days, and demolished in November. In its place will be the $190 million 725 Ponce, a 12-story, 360,000-square-foot office building over a 60,000-squre-foot new Kroger. The office building should be ready by the end of 2018, with the new grocery store expected to open in early 2019.
New City LLC is the developer, and Cooper Carry the architect.
The store standing on the 5.5-acre site now is called “Murder Kroger” because of its reputation of attracting crime. The current store has been open for 30 years, and the area around it is undergoing improvement.
