Micro units, small living spaces usually under 600 square feet and found in urban areas where housing is at a premium, have made their way to Orange County.

The trends seems to have especially taken off in Old Towne Orange, where housing is very much in demand. South Shaffer Cottages, which includes units for rent and sale, offers living spaces for under 500 square feet. Rents can go for about $1,500 per month, which is great for the landlord, Hugh Siler. That puts rents in his complex at about $3 per square foot, which he estimates is on par with what property owners with similar-sized units are commanding in San Francisco.
