MultiCare Acquires Former Rite Aid Site in Renton

MultiCare Health System, an organization that provides hospital, clinic, and urgent care health care services across Washington state, has purchased a former Rite Aid at 3116 NE Sunset Blvd. in Renton for $7.3 million.

The health care system has teamed up with Overlake Medical Center, its affiliate system, to open an emergency center at the site, reported the Puget Sound Business Journal. The organization does not yet have an expected opening date.

The site sits on a retail and housing strip between the Renton Goodwill and the Renton Highlands library. The 16,800-square-foot building sits on a 1.76-acre lot, and the property was built in 2000. The site was last purchased for $6.4 million in 2022 by California-based J.F. Investments.

Rite Aid announced the closure of its Renton Highlands location in June 2025. In Washington, where Rite Aid acquired Bartell Drugs in 2020, the pharmacy chain’s bankruptcy led to an influx of more than 100 available retail spaces.
