MTA Selects Skanska for Projects in Jamaica, Midtown Manhattan
Skanska has been selected by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority for projects in Queens and Manhattan. In the larger of the two projects, Skanska will carry out the $480-million construction of the new Jamaica Bus Depot, delivering a new LEED certified bus depot and accompanying administrative building. The project will significantly improve transit within one of New York City’s major transportation hubs and aid in the transition to a 100% electric bus fleet.
“We are honored to have the opportunity to provide a modernized and more efficient bus depot to one of New York City’s busiest transportation hubs,” said Michael Viggiano, EVP of Skanska USA Civil’s East Coast operations.
In Midtown Manhattan, Skanska was selected to make circulation improvements to the Grand Central – 42nd Street Station. The approximately $74.2-million project will additionally include upgrades to the subway station’s existing structures and systems in place.
