M&T Bank Upsizes Boston Operations with More Office Space, Hiring

M&T Bank plans to expand its Boston operations, bumping up its Winthrop Center space to 65,000 square feet and hiring 60 to 75 new employees over the next two to three years, reported the Boston Business Journal. The Buffalo-based financial institution currently occupies 40,000 square feet at the Millennium Partners-owned tower in Boston’s Financial District.

“There’s a focus here to build out deeper enterprise capabilities in Boston, focused on innovation, focused on product management, focused on customer experience and focused on community activation,” Jeff Carpenter, M&T market president, told the Business Journal. “Those are jobs for the bank that will be anchored here in Boston, but also supporting other markets across the footprint of M&T.”

The bank plans to hire across its commercial, business, wealth management and enterprise platform teams. Carpenter said the expansion will set the stage as the bank seeks deeper market presence across all divisions statewide.
