MPT to Merge Capella with RegionalCare
Medical Properties Trust Inc., a net-leased medical office REIT headquartered in Birmingham, AL, has signed an agreement to merge the operations of Capella Healthcare Inc. with RegionalCare Hospital Partners. The transaction’s total amount will be approximately $550 million, with which MPT will pay down debt.
Under terms of the deal, MPT’s Capella will be fully owned by RegionalCare, with strong equity support from affiliated Apollo Funds. Additionally, the company will retain ownership of five hospitals in Hot Springs, AR; Camden, SC; Hartsville, SC; Muskogee, OK and McMinnville, OR. Furthermore, under regulatory approval, MPT will retain the right to acquire an acute-care hospital in Olympia, WA.
