Moreno Valley Industrial Developer Seeks Infrastructure Help

Highland Fairview, the developer of the 40.6-million-square-foot World Logistics Center in Moreno Valley, wants some help from the city to improve the infrastructure around the project. The city is saying that it has been asked by the company to kick in $100 million to help improve roads, power lines, sewers and other facilities.

Some city officials say that they money isn’t there and other developers haven’t made such requests for their industrial endeavors. Highland Fairview points out that it is willing to foot part of the bill, and that the industrial park will bring 20,000 jobs and millions of dollars of revenue to the city.

The measure is up for a June 11 city hearing.

Do you think that industrial developers should expect municipalities to pay for infrastructure improvements around proposed developments?
