More Energy Coming to New Braunfels
The city of New Braunfels is getting ready to ramp up its energy supply by unveiling a new electric substation. The $4 million substation, which is on Weltner Road, east of SH 46, in Comal County north of San Antonio, will supply electricity to 6,600 homes in the area, according to New Braunfels Utilities CEO Ian Taylor.
The substation is in response to growth in the city, which has consisted mostly of farms and agriculture. Taylor told the San Antonio Business Journal that plans are underway to build a pump station and water-ground storage across the street from the substation.
The city added more than 20,000 residents between 2010 and 2017, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. New Braunfels Utilities laid out a $500 million plan for infrastructure growth, along with the city.
