More East River Ferry Riders in 2016

New Yorkers rode the East River Ferry system for 1.6 million trips in 2016, up 8% from the year before.

By summer 2017, the East River Ferry will become the new Citywide Ferry Service, with 21 landings across New York City, and a fleet of 19 vessels. The service will carry an estimated 4.6 million trips per year on six routes.

The price of a ferry trip will drop from the current $4 weekday price to $2.75 – the same as a subway ride.

“Citywide Ferry Service will bring a new, affordable transit option to our city, and will transform the way New Yorkers commute and connect,” said James Patchett, president and CEO of the New York City Economic Development Corporation.
