Mold-Breaking MXU Proposed for DTLA Arts District
The latest entrant into Downtown Los Angeles’ (DTLA) development boom is 4th & Hewitt, a mixed-use, live/work community in the heart of the Arts District. Shoreham Capital proposed a seven-story, 93-unit project with 20,250 square feet of ground-floor retail on a compact infill site at 940 E. 4th St.
New life is expected to be injected into the area via the transformation of a roughly half-acre site into a project that appeals to local artists, residents, and patrons. MVE Architects’ indoor/outdoor lifestyle design vision seeks to break the mold of typical live/work communities with wider designed spaces with natural lighting.
Large windows and industrial-inspired materials blend with the local character and relate to established neighborhood buildings. Large canopy trees, expanded sidewalks, and street-level retail help create a pedestrian-friendly experience and lend a dynamic urban quality.
