Mixed Outlook for Chicago CRE in 2018’s Second Half

Although Chicago real estate professionals generally agree that the markets were consistently strong in 2018’s first half, they’re more varied in their outlook for the year’s second half. The Mid-Year Chicago CRE Survey, conducted by The Real Estate Center at DePaul University, finds 44.2% of those surveyed lean toward “concerned” in their outlooks, while 30.8% remain bullish on the balance of 2018.

“Given the sustained bullishness of the Chicago marketplace, it is rational to think that some type of correction is in order,” the survey quotes Brian Rogan, VP with Associated Bank, as saying. However, according to the survey, “those with a different perspective are optimistic because of support from recent Trump tax legislation, and capital demand.”

The Real Estate Center Report surveyed more than 3,000 Real Estate Center sustaining sponsors and alumni to gauge their perspective on various issues and trends in Chicago real estate.
