MIT and Microsoft Debut Wearable Technology, Literally
MIT Media Lab and Microsoft Research have designed DuoSkin, temporary tattoos that can control electronic devices straight from the surface of human skin.
The wearable and washable technology uses the inherent electrodes in gold leafing to create an interface on skin that can pair with cellphones and laptops. With three different versions, the tattoos are able to control a computer’s mouse cursor, signal changing body temperature with color changing pigments, and use near field communication to share personal data, like photos, between the tattoo and device.
Although the public is often wary of technology that actually penetrates the skin’s barrier, this offers a less-intrusive option by existing on the surface.
