Mission Rock 2.8M-SF MXU Receives Unanimous Approval
The San Francisco Giant’s Mission Rock mixed-use development secured unanimous Planning Commission approval. The massive project, proposed on 28 acres in the Mission Bay south area, is planned for as many as 1,500 housing units, 1.5 million square feet of retail and office space, as well as eight acres of parks.
The development allocated 40% of housing units for affordable to low- and moderate-income families, including 24 units for individuals aging out of foster care, as well as housing for middle-income residents. The design calls for a pedestrian-oriented street environment that features small-scale retail spaces.
Mission Rock’s development team, which includes the Giants, acquired rights to develop the port-owned land across from the baseball stadium in 2007. Their vision is a true mixed-use enclave, offering variety, human scale and uses interspersed together through the site. Final approvals are expected early next year, with construction commencing in Q1 2019.
