Mirage Set to Vanish Off the Strip
The guest rooms are empty, the doors are closed and the bulldozers are on their way. The Mirage Hotel is about to vanish from the Las Vegas Strip. Costing $630 million, it was no simple gambling hall. It was the world’s largest hotel at the time. Guests were met by a faint piña colada scent and two bronze mermaid statues on their way to check in at a desk with a huge shark and reef fish tank behind it. But soon, it will be gone. But as is often the case with Strip properties, the land will not be vacant for long.
The nearly 35-year-old property will close for an overhaul and refurbishment, along with the addition of a nearly 700-foot-tall guitar-shaped hotel on the site, similar to the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida. The 80-acre resort will be renamed “Hard Rock Hotel & Casino and Guitar Hotel Las Vegas,” with an opening date slated for 2027.
