$35M Midland sports center built with all private money

Midland Building $35M Sports Center with All Private Donations

The Midland Athletic Syndicate facility will be erected at a cost of roughly $35 million to benefit local athletes. It has been funded entirely by local foundations and West Texas companies. No tax funds will be used to pay for the 115,000-square-foot facility. Jacob Martin will be the engineering firm. The company designed and built the Dodge Jones Sports Complex in Abilene.

The facility will include two full-sized soccer fields, 12 indoor volleyball courts and six full-court basketball courts.

The state-of-the-art sports facility is funded through a non-profit company that can accept tax-deductible contributions. The non-profit is also creating a large endowment that will support yearly employee compensation and substantial repairs without using local tax dollars.

The facility will be located adjacent to the current Scharbauer Sports Complex on Loop 250.
