$1.4B Bond Funding Two Midland High Schools

Out with the old, in with the new. The Independent School District (ISD) of Midland, located in West Texas, has begun the construction of two high school campuses totaling 1.5 million square feet. The new buildings will replace the old buildings, which are 62 and 94 years old, respectively. The district recently started work on the Legacy High Campus, which will serve 3,800 to 4,200 students and is scheduled to open in August 2028. The district also recently hosted a groundbreaking for the new Midland High.

Project partners include Pfluger Architects, Satterfield & Pontikes and Lee Lewis Construction. The renovations are financed with a $1.4 billion taxpayer bond passed in 2023.

Both campuses will see improvements in spaces for the performing arts and athletics and boast six art labs, a photography studio,  band, choir, orchestra, and mariachi practice rooms, an 800-seat auditorium, a 2,000-seat competition gymnasium, multipurpose gyms, and a multipurpose indoor practice facility to support band, cheer, drill team, and outdoor athletics teams.
