Microsoft Plans Major Modernization, Addition in Mountain View

A major modernization and expansion of Microsoft’s presence in Mountain View is reportedly working its way through the planning process. Last week, the Redmond, WA-based tech firm submitted plans for its 515,000-square-foot campus, that also includes the acquisition of the property from real estate entrepreneur Carl Berg.

Plans from WRNS Studio are said to include nearly 130,00 square feet of new office space, that’s designed to create a more modern workspace and accommodate another 500 workers. Plans also reportedly include bidding adieu to acres of parking, and replacement of several existing buildings in early 2017. Habitat and green space, including 3.7 acres of green roofs, will connect workplaces to nature and the larger regional landscape of Stevens Creek.

Microsoft now counts about 2,000 workers in the Bay Area, on such products as Xbox,, Skype and Yammer. The redesign is apparently aimed at helping Microsoft attract employees from tech rivals.
