Microsoft doubling SA footprint

Microsoft Doubling SA Footprint

Microsoft plans to more than double the size of a data center campus in Medina County, according to a public filing. The company is planning a one-story, 244,000-square-foot building with space to rent for five potential customers. Construction is planned to begin in April 2026 and cost an estimated $482.6 million.

ConnectCRE reported last year the company planned to build a 106,000-square-foot campus for $230 million.

Called “SAT82,” this would be the third data center the company is placing at the campus, about 10 minutes north of Castroville. Work on the two buildings is expected to finish this quarter, and construction on the new project is expected to finish in the first quarter of 2028.

The San Antonio Business Journal reports that Stream Data Centers and CyrusOne—both out of Dallas—recently broke ground on a combined 1.7 million square feet of data storage facilities on the town’s far west side. Vantage Data Centers, Amazon.com Inc. and CloudHQ are also in the mix.
