Mickey Barreto Indicted for New Yorker Hotel Scheme

Mickey Barreto of Mickey Barreto Missions has been indicted for allegedly trying to fraudulently transfer ownership of New York City’s New Yorker Hotel to his religious organization, announced by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. The Manhattan District Attorney charged Barreto with 14 counts of offering a false instrument for filing and 10 counts of criminal contempt.

Barreto’s scheme began with a one-night stay in 2019, which he tried to convert into a rental lease. He then filed false documents to claim ownership of the hotel, including a $189 million deed transfer and attempts to take control of bank accounts tied to the hotel.

Despite a court order prohibiting him from filing further false documents, Barreto allegedly continued his efforts in April and September 2023. The Holy Spirit Association for the Unification of World Christianity, the hotel’s owner, removed Barreto from the premises.
