Metrolink Makes Mobile Move
After 23 years of service, the Metrolink commuter railroad drove into unchartered territory this week, initiating its very first mobile ticketing app.
The pilot program, starting on the Inland Empire-Orange County Line, will allow passengers to purchase tickets on their phones, tablets, laptops, and other mobile devices.
Riders can download the app for free, and transfer to connecting bus service at no additional cost. Metrolink officials say that after testing in this region, the app will be enhanced for a system-wide push in April.
Metrolink serves 512 miles of track across six Southern California counties, including Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, Ventura, San Bernardino, and San Diego.
