Meta will build a one-million-square-foot data center near Kansas City

Meta Chooses Kansas City for Big $800M Hyperscale Data Center

Social media giant Meta has selected the Kansas City region as the locale for its giant $800 million hyperscale data center, according to the Kansas City Area Development Council.

The new center will be in addition to the 18 data centers Meta already operates worldwide comprising 40 million sf and representing an investment of more than $20 billion.

The new data center will be located in the 5.5 million sf Golden Plains Technology Park. Meta expects to make the $800 million investment over the next several years while building out the nearly 1 million sf facility.

“Meta is excited to call Kansas City our new home. It stands out with so much to offer – good access to infrastructure and fiber, a strong pool of talent for both construction and operations, and more than anything, great community partners,” said Darcy Nothnagle, director of community and economic development, Meta.

The development will boost the local economy, supporting up to 100 operational jobs and more than 1,300 jobs at peak construction. The tech company is starting construction and plans to be operational in 2024.
