Meridian’s Famularo Secures Times Square Lease for Sushi Chain
Fushimi Group, one of New York’s most well-known sushi restaurant chains, is slated to open its doors in Times Square early this summer. The 20,000-square-foot space at Divco West’s 311 W. 43rd St. was recently leased by Meridian Retail Leasing Team president James Famularo and director Greg Goldberg.
The two-story space was previously tenanted by Michelin-starred Chinese cuisine restaurant Hakkasan. After a $20-million buildout, the space is now adorned with fine marble and wood throughout the establishment.
It seats 650 people, including an outdoor area that Fushimi plans to activate. Based in Brooklyn, Fushimi Group operates locations there and on Staten Island.
“We are currently seeing a trend of high-end restaurateurs looking to get into the market with second-generation restaurant spaces,” said Famularo.
In May 2021, at the height of the global pandemic, Famularo similarly leased a 25,000-square-foot space at 253 W. 47th St. to Brooklyn Chop House.
