Mercedes-Benz Plans for Electric Truck, Tesla Too
Daimler, the German automaker of Mercedes-Benz, announced its plans for an electric heavy truck to be delivered within the next decade. The announcement came about a week after Tesla announced its plans for the same kind of vehicle, but Elon Musk said that his will be ready “for unveiling next year.”
According to Daimler, the electric truck, called the Urban eTruck, will be able to travel 124 miles on a single charge and carry a load of 26 tons. By 2025, it is expected that the costs of the batteries needed for the truck will fall to 200 euros per kilowatt-hour. At that price, it will allow electric vehicles to be competitive with traditional engines.
For each Urban eTruck, three lithium-ion batteries will power the system.
