$30M tennis center opens in Memphis

Memphis Groups Spend $30M on Tennis Facility

The supporters of tennis in Memphis hope it will attract world-class tournaments. Tennis Memphis is a blending of the City of Memphis, University of Memphis and a number of private donors who have come together to try to establish one of the best facilities in the country.

The nonprofit is running the City of Memphis-owned facility at 4145 Southern Ave., which underwent a $30 million renovation. The Leftwich Tennis Center features 12 new indoor and 24 outdoor tennis courts, spanning 200,000 square feet, and it is the only center of its size opening in the U.S. in 2023.

The University of Memphis’ men’s and women’s teams will play at the new Leftwich, which is open to the public. There are also aspirations to host more nationally relevant and long-term international tennis events at Leftwich.

Features at Leftwich include training and classroom facilities, plus a VIP lounge to encourage businesses to have a space to meet while also having employees play on the courts.
