Medical Group Takes Over Mall Space

Reliant Medical Group is moving into vacant retail space. The Massachusetts physician group plans to open a new doctor’s office in a former Macy’s Home store in Auburn Mall near Worcester, MA, and will consolidate two offices into former Sports Authority space in Milford Lowe’s plaza, roughly 30 miles southeast of Worcester.

The deals reflect shifts in the retail landscape, and is part of Reliant’s broader plan to consolidate its footprint from 27 sites to 19. Some offices will be relocated, and the company plans to open at least nine new clinical sites in Central Massachusetts. Nearby offices that serve similar geographic areas will be brought together.

Plans include relocating 185 employees to a 70,000-square-foot space at the Auburn Mall. The facility will provide outpatient services in cardiology, endocrinology and OB/Gyn services. The mall was one of the few sites that could accommodate Reliant’s space requirement and was close to a highway.
