McKinney Airport Moves Closer to Commercial Travel
McKinney City officials claim that the economic benefits of instituting commercial airline service would exceed $1 billion within five years.
The town moved a little closer to that goal last week. The McKinney City Council recently approved plans to rehabilitate Taxiway A at McKinney National Airport. The Dallas Business Journal reports the project includes widening the taxiway, adding new connectors and removing deteriorating pavement. Mario Sinacola & Sons received the contract for the $7.6 million project.
Construction on the airport’s new 46,000-square-foot commercial terminal is progressing. The town is hoping the first flight will take place in November. Avelo Airlines is the first commercial carrier slated to operate out of McKinney National Airport.
TKI operates as a general aviation airport serving private aircraft, including recreational pilots and corporate jets. Companies that use the airport include Toyota, Texas Instruments and Cirrus Aircraft, which also offers flight training.
